Empty nest syndrome [ENS] is a feeling of loneliness or depression that occurs among parents after children grow up and leave home. ΕΝS is clinically defined as the “temporal association of clinical depression with the cessation of child-rearing”. ENS refers to feelings of depression, sadness, and/or grief experienced by parents and caregivers after children come of age and leave their childhood homes. This may occur when children go to college or get married.
