Psychological consequences οf the unemployment crisis: hard times and eroded identity
Almost half a century ago, Sigmund Freud argued that the two great wellsprings of mental health are love and work. If Freud is correct, then job loss may entail human disruption and pain worthy of our attention and understanding. There is a substantial number of social and psychological junctions served by work that are critical to the well-being of every individual. When people lose their jobs, all these social and psychological functions are also lost.
